Sparks is the free loyalty scheme at M&S, and it has no points. Instead, M&S gives each member personalised offers, each with a spend target and a reward. Activate an offer, reach its target, and the reward is paid in pounds into your digital Sparks wallet, to spend at M&S in store or online.
M&S picks offers from each member’s shopping, so yours may differ from the ones on this page, which were read in one member’s Sparks account and are marked “Selected members”. Sparks also brings a birthday treat, a free hot drink after six bought in M&S Cafés, prize draws and a 1p charity donation each time you shop with it. None of those is a reward earned by spending, so we don’t list them as offers.

How Sparks offers work
Each offer pairs a spend target with a reward, such as a set number of pounds back when you spend a set amount on one range. You must tap “Activate offer” before you shop. The offer then shows what is included, and whether the target has to be reached in one transaction or can be built up over several; for the second kind, a progress bar shows how far you have to go.
Every offer has a fixed end date, and activating it does not move that date. An offer not completed by then is lost. You can hold several offers at once, and there may also be times when you have none.
Fashion, home and beauty offers count in store and online. Food offers count in store only, unless the offer includes food or flowers online. Reduced fashion, home and beauty items count, and so do Red Ticket seasonal food items, but yellow-sticker reductions do not.
We list the offers in one member’s Sparks account that pay Sparks rewards. Price discounts, prize draws and gifts are left out.
How to collect Sparks rewards faster
Activate before you shop
Spending before you tap “Activate offer” does not count toward the target. Activate in the M&S app or at marksandspencer.com, then shop.
Scan your card or sign in every time
In store, scan your Sparks card: the plastic card or the digital one in the M&S app. Online, shop signed in to your Sparks account. Scan & Shop counts too, as long as you activate offers before you log in to it.
Look for new offers each week
M&S’s own site greets members with “New week, new Sparks offers”. Opt in to Sparks emails and app notifications to hear when new offers arrive and how close you are to a target.
Don’t pay toward a target with your wallet
Only what you pay counts toward a target, after any rewards are taken off, and the rewards are spread across everything in the basket. M&S’s own example: with £10 of biscuits and £10 of other food in the basket and £5 of rewards loaded, you pay £15, and only £7.50 counts toward a “spend £10 on biscuits” offer. Spend your wallet on a different shop.
Work out what an offer is worth
A reward is a share of the money you spend to reach the target: £5 back on a £25 target is 20%, and £5 back on £50 is 10%. Activate the offers for things you would buy anyway.
Link Virgin Red if you book with Virgin
Virgin Red is Sparks’ first partner. Link your Virgin Red and Sparks accounts, start from a Virgin offer in your Sparks, and book in one browsing session. The reward stays pending in your Sparks wallet until 60 to 130 days after your trip, experience or cooling-off period.
How to spend Sparks rewards
Rewards stay in your digital Sparks wallet until you choose to spend them. Tap “Spend” in your Sparks, pick a whole-pound amount from £1 to £100 and enter the 6-digit code M&S texts you. That amount moves onto your Sparks card and comes off your next shop of the same value or more: in store when you scan the card, online when you are signed in. You need a mobile number on your account to get the code.
Sparks rewards spend only at M&S, on food, fashion, home and beauty. They cannot be taken as cash or spent on gift cards, travel money or infant formula, nor on alcohol in Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. Money paid from your wallet does not count toward the free delivery threshold, nor toward Sparks offer targets.
Rewards expire at the end of the quarter (March, June, September or December) a year after you earn them, which gives you 12 to 15 months. If you return something you bought with rewards, they go back to your wallet within 24 hours.

What happens to my Sparks reward if I return something?
Return an item before the offer ends and the reward is removed, but the offer comes back so you can complete it before its original end date. Return it after the offer has ended and the reward is taken out of your wallet.
What are the Sparks card benefits?
Besides offers that pay into your wallet: a birthday treat, if your date of birth is in your Sparks profile at least 35 days before your birthday month; a free hot drink after buying six in M&S Cafés, with stamps collected in the M&S app; prize draws; and a 1p donation to your chosen charity each time you shop with Sparks.
Where can I use my Sparks card?
In M&S stores, on the M&S website and in the M&S app. Sparks is not available at BP or Applegreen petrol stations, at M&S stores outside the UK and Republic of Ireland, or on Ocado.
How do I join Sparks?
Sparks is free for UK residents aged 18 or over. Join in the M&S app or at marksandspencer.com/sparks with your email address, and add a mobile number, as you need one to spend your wallet.
